Plivo alternative

The Plivo Alternative, Run For You

Two-way conversation that stays inside Zoho. Replies land on the record, and nothing about your customers leaves your own Zoho account: no vendor dashboard, no copy of your data, no phone home. Send one message or send to a whole list, and every reply lands back on the record in SMS History.

What makes it different

  • Nothing phones home
  • Two way, not one way
  • Your Twilio, your rates
  • Personalized at any volume
  • Every number, not just one
  • History follows the record

The short version

The short case for Cascadia over Plivo

Bookkeeping tools tend to assume every conversation happens over email. Bolt on a texting connector and the usual arrangement is that your customer records get copied out to an outside platform so it can do the sending and keep the thread.

What the managed part actually means

Chasing a late invoice by text normally means a connector holding a copy of your customer records so it can do the sending. This extension inverts that arrangement: the message goes out of Zoho Books, the reply lands back on the record in SMS History, and nothing is ever sent to us.

Nothing phones home

We hold no copy and run no dashboard on our side. There is nothing for us to lose in a breach and nothing for you to ask us to delete, because we were never holding it.

Two way, not one way

Accounting systems are built to send documents out, not to hold a conversation. This one captures the reply.

Your Twilio, your rates

You connect your own Twilio account, so message costs are billed to you at Twilio prices with nobody in the middle taking a cut.

Personalized at any volume

Dynamic text pulls values out of the record as each message is sent.

Who this comparison is for

Bookkeepers chasing receipts and missing paperwork

Schedule it for the morning a payment falls due. When somebody replies with a question, that reply sits on their account rather than in a shared inbox nobody owns.

Firms accountable for how client records are held

The extension executes inside your Zoho Books account, and messages leave through Twilio credentials that belong to you. There is no middle platform storing your customer list, so there is nothing to disclose about one.

Admins who keep the Zoho side tidy

Nobody has to remember another login, and no outside portal is quietly holding a copy of your customer list.

How the Zoho Books SMS integration works

Four steps, and none of them involve standing anything up. You install the extension from the Zoho Marketplace, connect your Twilio credentials, and start texting from a record.

  1. 1

    We assess your current setup

First we look at how things run today: what you already pay for, what is configured where, and which parts are actually causing you trouble.

  2. 2

    Install from the Zoho Marketplace

Nothing is hosted anywhere else, no server needs provisioning, and the SMS History module appears in Zoho Books ready to use.

  3. 3

    Connect your own Twilio account

Because the account is yours, message charges are billed to you at Twilio rates and your delivery records stay in your own console.

  4. 4

Text a record and watch the reply land

Use a saved template if it is a message you send often, and dynamic fields fill in the details from the record.

The difference that matters

No second account, no second system

Both options give you two-way texting on your Zoho Books records, and on paper the feature lists look similar. The difference is architectural. Plivo is a messaging platform you sign up for, and your conversations run through it. Ours is built in Deluge and runs inside your own Zoho account against your own Twilio credentials, so there is no Plivo account to hold, no vendor dashboard to log into, and no copy of your customer data anywhere but Zoho.

If your objection to texting from Zoho Books has ever been “who else ends up holding this data”, that is the question this answers.

How Plivo works

What Plivo does, in their own words

Plivo is a cloud communications platform with SMS and voice APIs. For a Zoho comparison, the relevant question is what sits between the two.

Plivo publishes no Zoho extension of its ownPlivo publishes SMS and voice APIs. The Plivo SMS extensions on the Zoho Marketplace are published by a third party, Ulgebra, and cover Zoho CRM and Zoho Desk, while Plivo’s own Zoho pairings are documented through automation platforms such as Pipedream.
It runs on a Plivo accountEvery request is authenticated with your Plivo Auth ID and Auth Token from the Plivo console, so a Plivo account sits alongside your Zoho account.
Someone has to build or buy the linkFor a Zoho app with no Plivo extension, connecting the two means an automation platform or custom development against the API. For CRM and Desk it means relying on a third-party extension, supported by Ulgebra rather than by Plivo.
Threading depends on the route you takeAn API or automation setup sends on a record event, so replies do not land on the record unless something is built to write them back. The Ulgebra extensions do handle inbound messages, into CRM records and into Desk tickets.
Voice as well as SMSThe platform covers programmable voice and user verification alongside messaging.
Built for developersPlivo positions itself as a programmable platform for teams comfortable working against an API.

See Twilio SMS for Zoho Books
Why would I switch from Plivo to Cascadia?

One reason is that nothing phones home. We hold no copy and run no dashboard on our side. There is nothing for us to lose in a breach and nothing for you to ask us to delete, because we were never holding it.

Does any of our data leave Zoho?

No. The extension is built in Deluge and runs inside your own Zoho account, using your own Twilio credentials. Message content stays in your SMS History module, and we have no access to it.

Can I schedule a message for later?

Yes. Compose the message now and set the date and time it should go out. The send happens at the moment you chose rather than the moment you were at your desk, which is useful for time zones, business hours, and anything that needs to land on a particular day such as the morning a payment falls due.

How do I install it?

Through the Zoho Marketplace, the same way as any other Zoho extension. Install it into your organization, connect your Twilio credentials in the setup screen, and you can send your first message from a record right away. There is nothing to host, no server to stand up, and no package to install anywhere else.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. The Zoho Marketplace listing offers a ten day free trial so you can install it, connect your Twilio account, and send real messages before committing to anything. Trials cannot be extended, so it is worth having your Twilio credentials ready before you start the clock on it.

What is this Zoho Books SMS integration?

It is a Zoho Books extension that lets you text your contacts and accounts using your own Twilio account. You can search for one customer and send a single message, or select a group and send to all of them at once. Replies come back into the SMS History module against the record they belong to, so the whole conversation stays readable inside Zoho Books.

How is this different from the reminders Zoho Books already sends?

Accounting systems are built to send documents out rather than to hold a conversation, so a customer who replies has nowhere useful to land. This extension captures the reply and logs it against the record, and it lets you send in bulk rather than one reminder at a time. That turns SMS from an alerting channel into something you can actually have a conversation on.

Do I need my own Twilio account?

Yes. You connect your own Twilio account and use your own numbers, so carrier charges are billed to you directly at Twilio rates rather than resold through us with a margin on top. It also means your message records sit in your Twilio console under your name, and you can change providers or numbers whenever you want.

Which records can I text from?

Contacts and accounts. You text the people on the record rather than a document, which means the conversation belongs to the customer relationship rather than to one invoice or one estimate. That keeps the thread readable as documents come and go over the life of the account.

Can I send a text to more than one customer at once?

Yes. Select the records you want and compose the message once. Everybody selected receives it, and each send is logged against that individual record rather than into one shared pile. Bulk sending to a saved list or view is also supported, which is easier when the same group gets messaged on a regular basis.

Where do replies show up?

In the SMS History module, as a new entry linked to the record that replied. You do not have to copy anything across or check a separate inbox. Because history is attached to the record itself, anyone who picks up that account later can read the full exchange without asking around for context.
