A 1Password Alternative for Companies Who Bought the Seats and Stopped There

1Password Business is 8.99 a user a month billed annually, and it is a genuinely good piece of software. What the license does not include is the person who decides which vaults exist, who may open one, and what happens to the logins somebody was holding on the day they resign. We do that part, for Zoho Vault, at three hundred dollars a month for the whole organization.

With Cascadia you get

  • Migration is included, not extra
  • Your team trained, not locked out
  • We will say when Vault is wrong
  • Access designed before anything imports
  • Your account, your data
  • Connected to the rest of Zoho

The short version

Why teams pick Cascadia over 1Password

We exist for the company that bought a good password manager, rolled it out in a fortnight, and has not looked at the vault list since. The software is fine.

What you get here

  • Somebody decides which vaults exist before the first one gets created
  • The role and permission model designed for your team, not simply made available to configure
  • A scheduled review of who still holds what, with the resulting list acted on
  • One figure for the organization, so a change in headcount does not change the invoice
  • The person who designed your access model is still reachable a year later
  • A leaver run as a process, with every credential they held rotated and logged
  • Emergency access and account recovery decided on purpose, before anybody needs them
  • The credential sits in the same estate as the client record and the ticket

What ships in the standard plan here

Licenses bought in week one, a vault list nobody has pruned since, and an offboarding step that lives in one person’s head.

  • A straight no on the first call if somebody already runs this properly
  • Policy, two factor enforcement and audit review configured for you, not left as options

Where the license ends and the running of it begins

A vault structure decided in one pass, by somebody who then stays to maintain it as the team changes.

One figure for the organization, with nothing metered underneath it

Vault setup and user provisioning, migration off whatever you are on now, chamber and folder design, the access model, policy and two factor enforcement, and the access reviews afterward.

Above about thirty four people, their licenses cost more than our fee

1Password Business is 8.99 per user per month on annual billing. Three hundred divided by 8.99 lands a little over thirty three.

You are not re-explaining the access model to a stranger every year

The same named person who decided which chambers exist and who may create one is the person you reach in month fourteen. No handover to a new account team, and no ticket queue in between.

The credential lands where the record already lives

Zoho Vault sits in the same estate as CRM, Desk and Projects. The login for a client system and the record of that client stop being two separate places maintained by two different people.

Who this comparison is for

The Starter Pack is full at twenty members

The flat 24.95 covers ten people. Ten more seats fit at 4.99 each, and then that plan is done.

The identity plumbing sits on the upper plan

Okta, Entra ID, OneLogin and Duo integration, role based vault sharing and Watchtower alerts are what 1Password lists as the things Business adds over the Starter Pack.

A named contact starts at a hundred and one users

Phone support is Monday to Friday, nine to five Eastern. Onboarding training and a dedicated customer success manager are both described as being for organizations of a hundred and one users or more.

How switching works

  1. 1

Nothing changes until we have watched how the team actually shares things

We sit with the person keeping client logins in a spreadsheet and the one who has reused the same password since 2019.

  2. 2

We count the vaults, the standing access and the accounts nobody claims

The vaults in daily use, the ones opened for a project that finished last spring, and the logins belonging to people who have left.

  3. 3

The structure, the sharing rules and the recovery position get written down

Which chambers exist, who may create one, what a contractor can reach and for how long, and what happens if the person holding master access cannot be reached.

  4. 4

You run a full month on it, with one real joiner and one real leaver

The first month runs with us alongside it. Anything that lands awkwardly gets changed while we are still there, rather than becoming a quirk you work around for the next two years.

See Managed Zoho Vault
How does 1Password compare to Bitwarden, Dashlane and LastPass?

Bitwarden publishes the lowest business pricing of the four, four dollars per user per month on Teams and six on Enterprise, and it is open source and self hostable. 1Password is 8.99 per user per month on Business, or a flat 24.95 covering up to ten people on the Teams Starter Pack. Dashlane and LastPass both render their business prices in the browser rather than in the page, so we will not quote a figure for either. All four will store a password safely. None of them decides who in your company should be able to open which vault.

Is the 1Password admin console on both business plans?

Both plans give you administration. 1Password summarizes the difference as Business adding identity provider integration, expanded role based vault sharing and permissions, Watchtower alerts, and broader administration and reporting. We will not go further than that, because the tick columns on their plan comparison table do not render as readable text and we do not guess at a table we could not read.

Which 1Password capabilities sit on the higher plan?

1Password describes Business as everything in the Teams Starter Pack plus integration with Okta, Entra ID, OneLogin and Duo, role based vault sharing and permissions, and Watchtower alerts. Guest accounts go from five on the Starter Pack to twenty on Business. Onboarding training and a dedicated customer success manager are described as being for organizations of a hundred and one users or more, whichever plan you hold.

What is not on the published plan list?

Who decides what a vault is for and who may create one. Who reviews standing access, and how often. What a contractor should be able to reach and for how long. What happens to the credentials somebody was holding on the day they leave. None of that is a feature you can buy on any tier of anything. It is a job somebody has to hold.

We already pay for 1Password. Why would I pay you three hundred a month on top?

Often you should not, and we say so regularly. If somebody in your building already owns the vault structure, reviews access on a schedule and handles leavers properly, you would be paying us to duplicate work that is already being done. Call us when that person leaves, or when nobody can name who it is.

At what point does 1Password stop being the cheaper answer?

On the license arithmetic, at around thirty four people. Business at 8.99 per user per month reaches three hundred dollars at roughly thirty three and a half users. Below that they cost less, and at ten people the Starter Pack is about a twelfth of our figure. Keep in mind that the two numbers are not the same kind of thing. Theirs is software. Ours is somebody running it, and you buy the Zoho Vault license separately.

Is 1Password metered on people or on passwords?

On people. Business is a straight per user monthly charge. The Teams Starter Pack is a flat fee covering ten members that stretches to twenty by adding seats at 4.99 each, and past twenty members that plan is no longer available to you.

Is 1Password a better product than Zoho Vault?

As a standalone password manager, yes, in most respects. The polish, the platform coverage and the security engineering are ahead, and we would rather say that than pretend otherwise. Zoho Vault wins on a narrower point. It is already inside the estate where your client records, your tickets and your projects live, and bought from us it arrives with somebody to run it.

Does Zoho Vault connect to the rest of Zoho?

That is the reason to choose it. Vault sits alongside CRM, Desk, Projects and the rest of the estate, so the credential for a client system and the record of that client are not two separate places maintained by two different people.

What exactly do you do for three hundred a month?

We set up the vault and provision your users, migrate you off 1Password, design the chamber and folder structure, write the access model, enforce policy and two factor, run the access reviews, and handle joiners and leavers as a process rather than a favor. The figure covers the organization and does not move when you hire.

Who holds the Zoho Vault license, you or us?

You do, and that is deliberate. The Vault subscription is bought in your name and stays there. If you stop working with us you keep the vault, the structure and the data, and carry on without a migration. Zoho Assist is the only service where we carry the license.

Can you move us off 1Password?

Yes, and it involves one step a straight export does not. Alongside moving the items across, anything that was shared loosely gets rebuilt against the access model rather than copied over as it stands. Migrating the mess faithfully is not a migration worth paying for.

Is there a minimum term?

No. Three hundred a month, month to month, thirty days’ notice. Both 1Password business plans are quoted on annual billing, so compare the commitment as well as the number.

What if we are only five people?

Then buy the 1Password Teams Starter Pack at 24.95 a month and keep your three hundred dollars. At five people the administration is small enough for one person to hold in their head. Come back when that stops being true.

What happens if we outgrow Zoho?

Some businesses do. Once what you are running is manufacturing, multi entity accounting or serious inventory, the ceiling is real and we will say so before you reach it.
