Google Drive alternative
A Google Drive Alternative for Companies Where Shared Storage Became Nobody’s Job
Google does not print a price for Drive anywhere on the Drive product page, because Drive is not sold on its own. It arrives inside a Workspace subscription, storage is pooled across the whole organization, and shared drives are marked a premium plan feature. Zoho WorkDrive is one app inside a suite, and we manage it for five hundred dollars a month per organization while your license stays in your name.
With Cascadia you get
- Migration is included, not extra
- Your team trained, not confused
- We will say when WorkDrive is wrong
- Structure designed before anything moves
- Your account, your data
- Connected to the rest of Zoho
The short version
Why teams pick Cascadia over Google Drive
We exist for the business where putting a file somewhere is the easy part, and the hard part is that the file also has to sit against a customer record, be findable in two years, and not still be readable by a contractor who finished in 2024.
What you get here
- Somebody designs the Team Folder structure before every project quietly opens another shared folder
- Somebody writes down who may share outside the company, which links may exist, and what may leave the business that way
- A monthly pass over members, guests, external collaborators and connected apps, checked against who joined, who left and what got shared
- A price you can read before you book a call, and that does not change because you crossed a storage or plan threshold
- The same named person on every call, who built your folder structure and can say why each permission exists
- One storage standard for the whole company, rather than the file living somewhere the customer record cannot see
- Shared team storage that does not depend on which plan tier finance signed for
- File, ticket, deal and project inside one suite rather than joined up with connectors you maintain
What ships in the standard plan here
A folder tree that grows one project at a time, sharing links nobody audits, a storage pool that fills without anyone owning it, files belonging to people who left, and a plan tier that quietly decides whether you have shared drives at all. Everything past the subscription is still yours to plan and run.

- An ownership and retention position taken deliberately, rather than one that only emerges when somebody leaves
Where holding the storage stops being the interesting question
Team Folders designed on purpose, external sharing written down rather than assumed, ownership and retention decided before somebody resigns, joiners and leavers handled the week they happen, TrueSync rolled out on the machines that need it, and WorkDrive wired into Zoho Directory, Flow, Sign and Analytics.
One figure per organization, whoever you hire next
The workspace and Team Folder structure, the permission and role design, the external sharing controls, the storage planning and reporting, the retention and recovery position, the data loss prevention and audit trails, the TrueSync rollout, and the migration off whatever you hold now.
The number is printed, and it is monthly
Five hundred a month, published on this page, and you can stop after thirty days. No annual prepayment, and no plan tier that quietly decides which capabilities you hold.
The person who designed it is the person who answers the phone
You are not explaining your folder structure to somebody meeting it for the first time. Google’s documentation and admin console are genuinely good and we used both to write this page.
One suite, so the file is already next to the record
WorkDrive sits inside the same Zoho estate as CRM, Desk and Projects, and we wire it into Zoho Directory, Flow, Sign and Analytics as part of the fee, so a signed contract lands where the record is.
Who this comparison is for
Drive is not sold on its own, and never has been
Every pricing link on the Drive page lands on the Google Workspace plans page. You are buying Gmail, Meet, Docs and Drive together, so the storage has no separate figure to compare against.
Storage is pooled across the whole organization
Google moved Business Starter onto pooled storage, so the per user allowance in the headline is a contribution to a shared pool rather than an allocation anybody holds.
Shared drives are marked a premium feature
The Drive product page marks shared drives, activity view, electronic signatures, third party integrations, client side encryption with Vault, and AI classification with data loss prevention as available on some Business and Enterprise plans.
How switching works
- 1
Nothing moves until we have seen where your files actually live
We sit with the people who file things properly and the ones who keep everything on the desktop.
- 2
We count the shared folders, the external links and the departed owners before anything moves
The folders somebody opens weekly, the ones created for a project that finished two years ago, the sharing links handed to clients and contractors nobody has looked at since, and the files still owned by people who left.
- 3
The structure, the permissions and the ownership position all get made on purpose
Which Team Folders exist, who may create one, who outside the company may be invited in, who owns a file when its author resigns, and how long a deleted item stays recoverable.
- 4
You run a full month on it, including one real project and one real departure
The first month of live filing runs with us beside it.

Google Drive alternative questions
Straight answers about switching, pricing, and what moves with you.
See Managed Zoho WorkDriveHow does Google Drive compare to SharePoint, Dropbox and Box?
It is the only one of the four with no price of its own, because Drive is sold inside Google Workspace rather than on its own. Microsoft is in a similar position for a different reason: both SharePoint pricing routes now land on the Microsoft 365 business plans page, where Business Basic is seven dollars per user a month paid yearly and includes a terabyte of cloud storage per user. Dropbox and Box both publish per user figures and both hold their deeper administration for the upper tier.
Can I just buy Google Drive online?
Not on its own for business use. Every pricing link on the Drive product page routes to the Google Workspace plans page, where you are buying the suite. There is a free personal tier of fifteen gigabytes and Google sells consumer storage plans, but business Drive is a Workspace subscription rather than a storage purchase.
Which Drive features depend on the plan you hold?
Google marks these as premium features available on some Business and Enterprise plans: shared drives, activity view, electronic signatures, third party integrations, zero trust controls including ransomware detection, client side encryption and Vault, and AI classification with data loss prevention. Shared drives are the significant one, because a shared drive is what separates team storage from a folder belonging to whoever created it. Sharing with expiry dates and permission levels is standard across the plans.
What is not on the published plan list?
On this comparison, the price itself, to start with. Beyond that: who decides which folders exist, who may create one, who outside the company may be invited in, who audits the sharing links handed out two years ago, who owns a file when its author leaves, and how long a deleted item stays recoverable. None of that appears on any vendor’s plans page, ours included, which is why this page exists.
We already pay for Google Workspace. Why would I pay you five hundred a month?
Often you should not, and we give that answer regularly. If Drive is working, the folder tree is deliberate and somebody reviews access, keep your five hundred dollars. You pay us when shared storage has quietly become nobody’s job, and when somebody still has to design the structure, decide who may share outside the company, handle leavers and the files they owned, wire files into the rest of the estate, and still be doing all of it a year from now.
At what point does Google Drive stop being the cheaper answer?
We cannot compute that one, and for the same reason as on our Google Chat page. Drive has no price of its own to divide five hundred by, because it is bundled into a Workspace subscription you are probably already buying. If you are on Workspace today the storage is very likely already paid for, and adding WorkDrive beside it means paying twice. That is worth knowing before you speak to us rather than after.
Is Google Drive metered on people, files or storage?
On people for the license and on the organization for the storage. Each Workspace seat contributes an allowance to a pool the whole organization draws on, which Google calls pooled storage, and Business Starter has moved onto that model. Its own admin guidance uses thirty gigabytes per user as the Starter baseline. The practical effect is that one person with a large video archive draws on the same pool as everybody else, and an administrator has to notice before it matters.
Is Google Drive a better product than Zoho WorkDrive?
As a place to write and edit a document with other people, yes, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Docs, Sheets and Slides are the strongest real time editing tools in any suite here, the search is better, and the security ceiling on the upper plans is higher. WorkDrive wins on two things: it already sits in the same estate as CRM, Desk and Projects, and its Team Folder model treats shared ownership as the default rather than a plan feature. If your problem is document authoring, buy Google.
Does Zoho WorkDrive connect to the rest of Zoho?
That is the reason to choose it. WorkDrive sits alongside CRM, Desk, Projects and People, and we wire it into Zoho Directory, Flow, Sign and Analytics as part of the fee, so a signed contract lands where the record already is. Google Drive integrates broadly with third party apps, from Slack and Zoom through to Salesforce, Atlassian and SAP, and does it well on the plans where that is included. The difference is that those are connectors somebody maintains and ours is one suite from one vendor.
What exactly do you do for five hundred a month?
We design the workspace and Team Folder structure and the naming, set the permission and role model, write the external sharing controls, settle the retention and recovery position, configure data loss prevention and the audit trail, provision people and remove them when they leave, roll out TrueSync on desktop and mobile, connect WorkDrive to Zoho Directory, Flow, Sign and Analytics, run the migration off whatever you hold now, and produce the storage planning and access reporting each month. Support for your team is unlimited and included.
Who holds the Zoho WorkDrive license, you or us?
You do. You buy WorkDrive direct from Zoho and we manage it, which is how all of our Zoho work runs with one exception. Managed Zoho Assist is that exception, because there we carry the subscription ourselves. On WorkDrive the license, the data and the account all stay in your name, so leaving means we hand back the keys rather than move a subscription.
Can you move us off Google Drive?
Yes, and it adds a step a straight file copy does not. As well as listing the folders people actually use, the ones nobody has opened for a year and the outside companies still holding links, we account for files owned by people who have left, because ownership does not travel with a copy. Google publishes its own migration tooling and we use it where it fits. Agreeing what happens to the Workspace subscription afterward is part of the job rather than an afterthought.
Is there a minimum term?
No. Five hundred a month, month to month, thirty days’ notice, and no setup fee. Your Workspace agreement is between you and Google and it is worth reading before assuming you can stop paying for it this quarter, particularly if you committed annually to get the lower rate.
What if we are only five people?
Then use whatever you already hold and keep your five hundred dollars. Five people who all know where the folder is do not have a governance problem, and that includes here. Come back when the second team starts, or when the first person leaves and nobody is sure what they still own.
Want a file system somebody actually decided on?
Five hundred a month per organization covers the review, the Team Folder design, the permissions, the migration, the integrations and the ongoing tuning, with nothing metered. Your Zoho WorkDrive license stays yours.
